Alumni win engineering award
Engineering alumni Mario Garingo (Electrical and Computer Eng ’11) and Yashodhan Athavale (MASc ’10) have won first prize at a design and innovation engineering competition as part of the 11th International Conference for Upcoming Engineers held at Ryerson this summer. The pair won for their “brain stethoscope,” which can reach into any specific areas of the cerebral cortex, select any specific electrical frequency in the brain and then “hear” an auditory representation of the sounds.
The project could evolve into a new diagnostic and treatment tool. The co-supervisors were Professor Sri Krishnan and Dr. Mark Doidge, president of Cerebral Diagnostics Canada.
